In shadows cast, a figure kneels,
A soul adrift, the darkness feels.
With hands pressed firm in silent prayer,
Yet chaos lingers in the air.
The smoke, a whisper, curls and weaves,
Like haunted dreams one never leaves.
It clings and claws, a ghostly trace,
Of fears long buried in this space.
The mind, a battlefield unknown,
Where light and shadow fight alone.
In search of peace, the soul must wade,
Through depths of darkness it has made.
And there, amid the swirling mist,
Lies a truth that can’t be kissed.
For in the black, we face our own,
The shadows of the heart we’ve grown.
UPEKSHITA
UPEKSHITA - a special choreography in Odissi style based on two most neglected and misunderstood characters of the great epic of Ramayana -Urmila and Suparnakha. This dance ballad which draws inspiration from Valmiki’s Ramayana, Tulsi Das’s Ram Charitra Manas, Dr. Ashok Sharma’s Shurpanakha-Ek LadkiAlag Si, Kavita Kane’s Lanka’s Princess and Asha Prabhat’s Urmila offers a fictional depiction of the two characters. It delves much deeper into the myriad facets of human nature.
